Image City Maps Profile

3001 IDS provides Image City Maps (ICM) and Digital Image City Maps (DICM) at various scales for the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA). The data is collected from monoscopic (2-D) orthorectified Government Furnished Information (GFI) satellite imagery. The ICM is a high-resolution imagery-based hard copy map with vector overlays depicting major roads, landmarks, and other reference points. The DICM is an interactive digital representation of the ICM.

Another digital product produced by 3001 is an eChart. This multimedia PDF format of the ICM is compressed to 5MB or less and is designed to be used in conjunction with Adobe Acrobat Reader. The charts are used primarily to support tactical planning, operations for ground combat, and humanitarian missions.

Image City Map Success

3001 was selected to produce ICM/DICM charts in support of the 2004 Olympic Games held in Athens, Greece. The ICM/DICM products helped contribute to supporting local and international security measures. 3001 was recognized for the innovation of utilizing PenTablet PCs with the DICM to allow security personnel to view and update map data and security information "on the fly." This provided both a portable and user-friendly Windows-based geospatial security system. The task order had a short time line and critical due date which 3001 met with commendation, both for delivering a quality product and for the innovative initiative of introducing the multi-functional PenTablet PC.
